Tchaikovsky's First Concerto
Tchaikovsky's First Concerto
Thursday, November 7 — Saturday, November 9 2019
What good fortune that we can experience Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto at all—his mentor initially deemed it vulgar and “absolutely unplayable!" Luckily Tchaikovsky ignored this critic, published his concerto, and unveiled what has become one of the most treasured pieces in the piano repertoire.
Framing the concerto are a new work by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Julia Wolfe, as well as Sibelius’s nostalgic First Symphony, a piece inspired by the composer's native Finland.

“ Stasevska's international reputation is strongly growing, and after seeing her in concert it is not hard to understand why. She is bursting with musical knowledge and energy. ”
