Henry Threadgill has composed a new musical score entitled ‘Brown Black X’ inspired by the work of longtime friend and artist McArthur Binion and the Modern Ancient Brown Foundation. Featuring a mix of New York, and Detroit-based musicians, the new work will debut in Detroit at Orchestra Hall on June 24th.
Established in 2019, by Cranbrook Academy of Art alumnus McArthur Binion, the Modern Ancient Brown Foundation endeavors to support the intersection between the visual and literary arts in the Detroit community. It also strives to elevate the city as a hub and resource for the artistic exploration of contemporary artists.
Henry Threadgill is an American composer, saxophonist and flautist. He came to prominence in the 1970s leading ensembles rooted in jazz with unusual instrumentation, and often incorporating other genres of music. In 2017 Henry Threadgill won the Pulitzer Prize for Music.
