Detroit, (September 24, 2020) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) today announced that conductor James Feddeckwill step in for Music Director Laureate Leonard Slatkin to lead the DSO Digital Concert on Thursday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. Slatkin is healthy, but concerned by an increased number of Covid-19 cases in his area and has decided to remain home as a precaution. The program, which is listed below, is unchanged. On Friday, October 2, acclaimed pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet joins DSO musicians to perform Franck’s Piano Quintet in F minor.
Feddeck previously appeared with the DSO on the William DavidsonNeighborhoodConcert Seriesin January 2016; next Thursday’s performance will mark Feddeck’s Orchestra Hall debut.

About James Feddeck
Born in New York and hailed by the Chicago Tribuneas “A gifted conductor who’s clearly going places,” James Feddeck is a winner of the Solti Conducting Award, the Aspen Conducting Prize, and is a former Assistant Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra.
Forthcoming engagements this season include debuts with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, Staatskapelle Weimar, and the Oregon Symphony Orchestra, and return visits to the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Orchestre National de Belgique, Residentie Orkest, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, and Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife.
In recent seasons, Feddeck has also appeared with many other leading European and North American orchestras including the Vienna Radio Symphony, Deutsches Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Orchestre National de France, BBC Symphony, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Barcelona Symphony, Stockholm Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Detroit Symphony, and the Toronto Symphony.
An accomplished organist, Feddeck has also given recitals throughout Europe and North America. He studied oboe, piano, organ, and conducting at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and was the first recipient of their Outstanding Young Alumni Award.
