Sheefy Takes Flight
Detroit’s love languages are music and the arts. On July 1, the two will merge in a dynamic way throughout the DSO campus. Coined “The Sheefy McFly Experience,” this immersive event fuses the talents of multi-hyphenate artist Tashif “Sheefy McFly” Turner and composer DeSean Jones.
The evening kicks off in Sosnick Courtyard with an art pop-up and DJ sets from Deon Jamar and Sheefy. Then, the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center transforms into an art gallery with hors d'oeuvres and new paintings by Sheefy on display. For the latter part of the evening, guests gather in The Cube for Sheefy McFly's short film premiere, live painting, and a performance with DeSean Jones and the Urban Art Orchestra.
“We are both byproducts of the Detroit School of Arts, so it means a lot for us to have experienced the training of music and visual arts, and to now be in a position where we can curate a space uninhibited,” says Jones. "It’s completely Sheefy’s vision for what he wants to do visually, musically, and comprehensively as an artist. I have carte blanche to do what I want scoring-wise in terms of instrumentation. We really want to do something special for the city that can be replicated and continued.”
