Focusing Out

The 8th Annual DSO Day of Service

Being a community-supported orchestra also means being a community-supporting orchestra, so once a year DSO musicians, staff, and supporters visit community partners to give back.

This October we worked with four new partners: Oakland Avenue Urban Farm, the Belle Isle Conservancy, Rock CF, and Detroit Black Community Food Security Network, and painted rocks for our good friends at the Children's Hospital of Michigan, which will be placed on the CHM playground for kids receiving medical support.

In its eighth year, our Day of Service looked a little bit different - with some projects being completed from home - but we're elated to introduce you to some of the organizations that make Detroit great! Learn more about the missions of our new partners in the interviews below conducted by orchestra members.

Day of Service serves as a reminder that we are stronger together than we are apart, and that collective action can still be accomplished virtually and in person - with a little work to find safe options. ”
