  • Shostakovich Violin Concerto & Schumann, 12/1-3 - Powerful violinist Baiba Skride takes on the little-known second violin concerto of Shostakovich. I remember seeing her play Shostakovich's first concerto when I was young —her playing is so fiery and strong. I can't wait for this one.
  • Shostakovich 5 and Anna Clyne’s Saxophone Concerto World Premiere, 2/18-19 - Female conductor, yes! Female soloist, yes! Female composer, yes! I am so excited to work with these incredible artists and leaders.
  • Classical Roots, 3/3-4 - I find the work of poet jessica Care moore profoundly moving. She is so creative and virtuosic. I can't wait to see her collaborate with Anthony McGill, Davóne Tines, and our very own Na'Zir McFadden!
  • Respect: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin, 5/26-28. Need I say more? :)

Classics and Icons: curated by Concertmaster Robyn Bollinger

  • Mahler’s "Resurrection" Symphony, 11/11-13 - This is one of the most epic and iconic pieces of symphonic literature. It is heart wrenching, glorious, monstrous, and sublime. Plus, you know Jader will do it from memory—a truly awesome feat. This one is a do-not-miss.
  • Jader Conducts Stravinsky’s "Firebird," 3/30-4/1 - Firebird is one of Stravinsky's great works, a 20th-century staple in the orchestral canon. It has one of the most triumphant finales in the whole repertoire. I'm also excited to get to know the work of Arturo Márquez, who infuses his orchestral writing with mariachi style from his Mexican upbringing.
  • Christian McBride's New Jawn, 3/24 - Even I know Christian McBride is a big deal. I hope I can get tickets for this one. His musicianship defies categorization and extends into humanitarianism. Buy your tickets now and thank me later.
  • Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra & Dueñas Plays Lalo, 6/8-10 - You'll immediately recognize Also Sprach as the iconic opening of Kubrik's 2001: A Space Odyssey, but in the violin world it's famous for being one of the biggest concertmaster solos in the repertoire. And Maria Dueñas's performance of Lalo’s Symphonie espangole won her the 2021 Menuhin Competition, one of the most prestigious violin competitions in the world.
