The DSO partners with the University of Michigan and Bowling Green State University to hire qualified music students to serve as CYE mentors to our talented students. CYE Mentors will assist students by leading sectionals, assisting with musician part assignments, working directly with ensemble directors, and performing with ensembles during CYE's annual concerts. CYE Mentors are paid and are provided the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in teaching and performance to help grow their resumes as they pursue careers in music.

Positions are available for all string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. Positions are also available to assist with our jazz ensembles. Mentors must be available for all rehearsals and concerts as outlined in their individual schedules. All rehearsals occur at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center in Midtown Detroit. Mentors are responsible for their own transportation to and from all services. Parking passes will be provided for the season.

The application and vetting process happens in August every year. If you are a music student attending either of our partner universities and are interested in becoming a CYE mentor at any point during the academic year, please reach out to cye@dso.org.
