The DSO’s Sosnick Courtyard is an outdoor, flexible seating venue located on Parsons Street between Woodward Avenue and Cass Avenue, just south of Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center. This venue serves as a dynamic, innovative, open-air “fourth stage” that strives to bring together diverse communities in a highly collaborative and inclusive performing arts and green space. The Courtyard covers about 15,000 square feet, with lawn area, small gardens, paved walkways, and moveable seating. Audience members have the option to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets in a first-come-first-served open seating area or reserve VIP picnic tables. Enjoy a cold beverage of your choice from our outdoor bar and an evening of live music under the stars.

The Courtyard was built in 1993, and was conceived as a small green place with musical interpretative components. The proposed paving pattern reflected the design of piano keys, with trees to screen the DSO Parking Garage. Today, the Courtyard maintains the open lawn areas with a small tree grove for shade. The proposed design was modified in 1998 when Robert Sosnick facilitated a profound gift from Allied Signal Corporation: the Trilogy Sculpture by Louise Nevelson.
