Acting Principal Violinist Adam Stepniewski joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 1991 as Assistant Principal of the Second Violin section. He is a native of Poland and graduate of prestigious F. Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw.
Prior to appointment with Detroit Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal Second Violin, Adam served as Fourth Concertmaster with Radio Symphony Orchestra of Copenhagen, Denmark and Assistant Concertmaster with National Philharmonic in Warsaw.
He has also performed and recorded with the Polish Chamber Orchestra and the Sinfonia Varsovia, with such conductors as Yehudi Menhuin, Mstistlav Rostropovich and Hans Graf.
His concert tours with the Warsaw Philharmonic and the Denmark Radio Symphony Orchestra have taken him to Western Europe, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Japan and the United States. He also performed and recorded with the Polish Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia Varsovia. In 1987 he was a guest member of the World Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Guiseppe Sinopoli. In 1999, Adam returned to his native land for a concert of remembrance marking 60 years since the Nazi invasion of Poland.
