Gil Shaham Performs Barber Violin Concerto

Streaming: Saturday, June 11, at 8:00pm EDT

Scheduled Saturday and Sunday performances of Wynton Marsalis’s Blues Symphony and "Herald, Holler and Hallelujah!" will not take place due to the orchestra's quarantine policy after a musician tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The concerts will proceed with this weekend’s guest soloist Gil Shaham performing Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto conducted by Music Director Jader Bignamini. Shaham has also graciously agreed to perform Bach’s solo Partita No. 3 in E major, BWV 1006. Tonight’s Live from Orchestra Hall webcast will proceed with Marsalis’s Blues Symphony from Friday night’s concert, which took place as planned.

Beloved by audiences across the globe, violinist Gil Shaham returns to Detroit to join DSO Music Director Jader Bignamini to perform Barber's Violin Concerto on a program also featuring two works by internationally acclaimed musician, composer, and bandleader Wynton Marsalis: his Fanfare and Blues Symphony.
