PNC Pops Series continues with Under the Streetlamp conducted by Enrico Lopez-Yañez, November 15–17

Program features hits by The Drifters, Roy Orbison, Nat King Cole, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons

Detroit, (October 31, 2024) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) continues its 2024–25 PNCPops Series with Under the Streetlamp led by Principal Pops Conductor Enrico Lopez-Yañez in Orchestra Hall on November 15–17.

Former Broadway cast members from Jersey Boys, a musical about the rise of the 1960s rock’n’roll sensation the Four Seasons, joined forces for Under the Streetlamp. Together with world-class orchestras, they dazzle audiences with their own arrangements of classic doo wop, Motown, and rock ‘n’ roll hits featuring smooth harmonies and showstopping choreography.

With the DSO, Under the Streetlamp performers will present hits by The Drifters, Roy Orbison, Nat King Cole, The Beach Boys, and The Beatles, and, of course, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

Performances will be on Friday, November 15 at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, November 16 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, November 17 at 3 p.m. in Orchestra Hall.

Tickets for these performances start at $20 and can be purchased at dso.org or by calling the Box Office at 313.576.5111, open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Detroit Harmony is hosting a metro-wide instrument drive October 14–November 16 to aid in their mission of putting an instrument into the hands of every K-12 public, private, and charter school student in the city who wants to learn to play. Before the November 16 concert, they will be accepting instrument donations beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the William Davidson Atrium within the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center. More information about the instrument drive can be found on Detroit Harmony’s instruments page.

Detroit Harmony is a citywide collaborative effort between the DSO and other arts nonprofits, schools, community organizations and city leaders. The initiative aims to strengthen Detroit’s music education opportunities for every child while also growing economic opportunity by supporting theinstrument technicians, music educators, and teaching artists essential to a thriving musical community.

Lopez-Yañez will return to Orchestra Hall later this season to conduct the beloved Home for theHolidays concerts on December 13 through 15. He will also conduct La Vida Loca and a family concert in March, and a program with acclaimed singer-songwriter Ben Folds in May.

About Enrico Lopez-Yañez

Enrico Lopez-Yañez is Principal Pops Conductor of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He also serves in the same role with the Nashville and Pacific symphonies, and as Principal Conductor of the Dallas Symphony Presents. Lopez-Yañez has quickly established himself as one of the nation’s leading conductors of popular music and become known for his unique style of audience engagement. Also an active composer/arranger, he has been commissioned by prominent orchestras across the United States. Lopez-Yañez has conducted concerts with a broad spectrum of artists from Nas and Patti LaBelle to Itzhak Perlman, The Beach Boys, Kenny G, and more.

An advocate for Latin music, Lopez-Yañez was the recipient of the 2023 “Mexicanos Distinguidos” Award by the Mexican government, an award granted to Mexican citizens living abroad for outstanding career accomplishments in their field.

As Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Symphonica Productions, LLC, Lopez-Yañez curates and leads programs designed to cultivate new audiences. Symphonica’s show offerings range from popsshows to family and educational productions and have been performed by major orchestras across North America.

As a producer, composer, and arranger, Lopez-Yañez’s work can be heard on numerous albums including the UNESCO benefit album Action Moves People United and children’s music albums including The Spaceship that Fell in My Backyard and Kokowanda Bay.
