- Series brings DSO to eight venues across Metro Detroit, including new venue in Monroe

Detroit, (July 16, 2019) – The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) today announced its 2020 William Davidson Neighborhood Concert Series. From January through July 2020, the series will bring the artistry of the DSO beyond the walls of Orchestra Hall into eight surrounding communities. Fans can experience the orchestra, guest conductors, and guest soloists in Southfield, Clinton Township, Beverly Hills, West Bloomfield, Plymouth, Bloomfield Hills, Grosse Pointe, and in a new venue: the Meyer Theater in Monroe.
Subscription packages are on sale now, with four-concert packages starting at $75. Neighborhood Series subscribers also receive complimentary admission to DSO Chamber Recitals, which take place in Detroit and surrounding communities, for the entirety of the 2019-2020 Season.
Each neighborhood hosts four performances throughout the season, with the exception of Clinton Township and Monroe, which feature two each. Two-concert packages for these neighborhoods are available, as well as four-concert packages that allow patrons to add two performances from any other neighborhood.

Featuring repertoire programmed especially for the neighborhoods, the 2020 season marks the ninth year of the William Davidson Neighborhood Concert Series. The Series is one of the many ways in which the DSO creates musical impact beyond Orchestra Hall, reaching new audiences and connecting with communities as it strives to be the most accessible orchestra on the planet.
Throughout Detroit and its surrounding areas, DSO musicians regularly perform in Chamber Recitals (free to all Neighborhood subscribers) and appear at schools, hospitals, senior living facilities, places of worship, parks, and other community gathering spaces.

Thanks to a generous grant from the FCA Foundation, the charitable arm of North American automaker FCA US, the DSO welcomes military veterans, active military, and their families to access discounted tickets for performances in Southfield and Plymouth. The FCA Foundation and the DSO thank our veterans and active military members for their service.
WRCJ 90.9 FM also supports the Series.
Renamed in 2014 in honor of philanthropist William Davidson, the William Davidson Neighborhood Concert Series brings even more opportunities for Metro Detroiters to experience the DSO close to home. In October 2017 the William Davidson Foundation made a $15 million gift of support to the DSO—one of the orchestra’s largest ever—including continued sponsorship of the Series.

2020 Season Highlights
The William Davidson Neighborhood Concert Series invites top talent from the international music scene to perform with the DSO in intimate settings close to patrons’ homes. Guest artists in the 2020 Season include conductors Mei-Ann Chen, Jonathon Heyward, Eduardo Strausser, Elena Schwarz, and more; cellists Sterling Elliott, Pablo Ferrández, and Andrei Ioniță; pianist Eric Lu; and conductor/violinist/countertenor Dmitry Sinkovsky, among others.
DSO musicians will also be featured soloists on two programs: Associate Concertmaster Kimberly Kaloyanides Kennedy will perform Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 2 March 19, 20, and 22; and Assistant Principal Bassoon Michael Ke Ma will perform Rossini’s Bassoon Concerto May 14-17.
Beloved works from the repertoire like Bizet’s Carmen, Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, Beethoven’s Symphonies Nos. 1 and 3, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, and Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto in D minor complement lesser-heard masterpieces like Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony (Op. 73A), Franck’s Symphony in D Minor, Kodály’s Dances of Galánta, and selected Handel arias.

A donation of $25 or more to the DSO Annual Fund waives subscription fees.
Four-concert packages for Southfield cost $75.
Two-concert packages for Clinton Township and Monroe cost $50. Four-concert packages for these venues are also available for $90; in addition to the two concerts at the respective venue, packages include two concerts at any other venue(s) of a patron’s choosing.
Four-concert packages for Beverly Hills, West Bloomfield, Plymouth, Bloomfield Hills, and Grosse Pointe cost $100.
Tickets to all venues are general admission; however, Preferred Packages including priority reserved seating are available for Beverly Hills and Bloomfield Hills for $200.

A dedication to broadcast innovation began in 1922, when the DSO became the first orchestra in the world to present a radio broadcast and continues today with the free Live from Orchestra Hall webcast series, which also reaches tens of thousands of children with the Classroom Edition expansion.
