Governing Members are an essential part of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra community. Your support helps sustain the DSO’s artistic excellence, education and community programs, and its role as a cultural destination for Detroit and beyond.
Governing Membership is about more than philanthropy. It’s an invitation to experience the DSO in ways that go beyond the concert hall, including behind-the-scenes access and special gatherings to opportunities to connect with the musicians, artists, and fellow members who make this community so special.
Your Voice Is Heard
It’s in the name. More than just supporters, Governing Members are an important part of the DSO’s community of leaders. Through your membership, you have a voice in the organization and an opportunity to help shape its future.
Governing Members are voting members of the corporation and are invited to participate in the DSO’s Annual Meeting alongside members of the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees.
Your generosity provides critical operating support that helps the DSO reach audiences, students, and communities throughout Detroit, across the region, and around the world.
Gather With Us
Throughout the season, Governing Members are invited to a collection of special gatherings designed to bring the DSO community together.
- Member events: Governing Members gather three times a year for signature member events to enjoy great music and meaningful conversation with fellow members.
- Backstage at the DSO: Members receive invitations to backstage experiences that reveal the people, preparation, and artistry behind the performances.
- Meet-a-Musician: Meet-a-Musician conversations bring Governing Members together with DSO artists for informal, in-depth conversations before performances. Ask questions, hear personal perspectives, and discover the stories behind the music.
Make Concert Night Your Own
Governing Membership adds a little more to every visit to Orchestra Hall. Members enjoy access to the Herman and Sharon Frankel Donor Lounge before concerts and during intermission, personalized ticketing and hospitality, waived ticket fees, and more. Our hospitality team is also here to make every visit easy—from tickets and exchanges to parking and everything in between.
The Gabrilowitsch Society
The Gabrilowitsch Society recognizes Governing Members whose annual support reaches $10,000 or more. This community of leadership donors plays an essential role in sustaining the DSO’s artistic, educational, and community impact.
