Hailed as “one of Europe’s greatest promises” (Helsingin Sanomat), Tabita Berglund is one of today’s most exciting, talented young conductors who is fast gaining a reputation for her alert, charismatic and inspiring style which elicits “exceptional music-making” (The Arts Desk). Berglund is currently Principal Guest Conductor of Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, appointed to this post following her debut engagement with the orchestra in 2020. 

Symphonic highlights of the 2023–2024 season include Berglund’s debuts with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berner Symphonieorchester, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony, the Dresdner Philharmonie, the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, and the Grafenegg Festival where she joins forces with the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich for the second time and ahead of further performances later in the season. Working together again with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Berglund makes her Garsington Opera debut conducting a revival production of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. Other return highlights during the season include Berglund’s final concerts as Principal Guest of KSO, as well as engagements with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, the Trondheim Symfoniorkester, and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. 

Throughout 2023–2024, Berglund collaborates with internationally-renowned soloists such as Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Leila Josefowicz, Truls Mørk, Camilla Tilling, Benjamin Beilman, Paul Lewis, and Johan Dalene. She continues to champion the music of Nordic compatriots such as Sibelius, Stenhammar, Tveitt, Nordheim, and Thorvaldsdottir, as part of a wide-ranging repertoire from Mozart and Beethoven through to Prokofiev, Boulanger, and Lutosławski, among others. 

Previous season highlights include Berglund’s US debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as well as engagements with the Bergen Philharmonic, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, the Finnish Radio Symphony, and the Stavanger symphony orchestras, the Luzerner Symphonieorchester, the Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal, the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, the Hallé, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Tapiola Sinfonietta, among others. 

Berglund graduated in 2019 from the Orchestral Conducting Masters course at the Norwegian Academy of Music, where she studied under Professor Ole Kristian Ruud. She originally trained as a cellist and received her master's degree under Truls Mørk, performing regularly with the Oslo and Bergen philharmonic orchestras as well as the Trondheim Soloists before conducting became her main focus in 2015. She was the 2018–2020 star of the Talent Norway program and is a past recipient of the Gstaad Conducting Academy’s Neeme Järvi Prize. Berglund’s debut CD, on which she conducts the Oslo Philharmonic with violinist Sonoko Miriam Welde, was released in 2021 (LAWO) and subsequently nominated for a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemann) in the 2022 Classical Music category. 

Cédric Tiberghien is a French pianist who has established a truly international career. He has been particularly applauded for his versatility, as demonstrated by his wide-ranging repertoire, interesting programming, an openness to explore innovative concert formats and his dynamic chamber music partnerships.

Concerto appearances in the 2023–2024 season include his debut with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestras as well as re-invitations to the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Orchestre National de Lyon. His solo and chamber appearances, the later with Alina Ibragimova and the Chiaroscuro Quartet, include performances in London, Brussels, and Berlin. Tiberghien has a long association with the Wigmore Hall in London, where he is currently performing a complete Beethoven variation cycle, juxtaposed with works by other composers, illustrating the evolution of the genre.

Last season Tiberghien performed Messiaen’s Turangalila Symphony with both the Berliner Philharmoniker (Simone Young) and the Orchestre National de France (Cristian Macelaru). Other recent collaborations have included the Boston Symphony, Cleveland, London Symphony, NDR Elbphilharmonie, and Tokyo Philharmonic orchestras and at the BBC Proms with Les Siècles. His conductor collaborations include Karina Canellakis, Nicholas Collon, Stéphane Denève, Edward Gardner, Enrique Mazzola, Ludovic Morlot, Matthias Pintscher, François-Xavier Roth, and Simone Young.

Tiberghien’s most recent recording is volume one of a complete Beethoven variation cycle, repertoire which he is also performing at Wigmore Hall. This is released by Harmonia Mundi for whom Tiberghien has also recorded the Ravel Concertos with Les Siècles/Roth, which has attracted superlative critical acclaim, including the accolade of “Editor’s Choice” in Gramophone Magazine . Tiberghien has previously recorded works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and Debussy for Harmonia Mundi. He has been awarded five Diapason d’Or, for his solo and duo recordings on Hyperion; his most recent solo project being a three-volume exploration of Bartók’s piano works.

As a dedicated chamber musician, Tiberghien’s regular partners include violinist Alina Ibragimova, violist Antoine Tamestit, and baritone Stéphane Degout, with all of whom he has made several recordings as well as performing in concert. His discography with Alina includes complete cycles of music by Schubert, Szymanowski, and Mozart (Hyperion) and a Beethoven Sonata cycle (Wigmore Live). Tiberghien is a member of the Académie Musicale Philippe Jaroussky, where he teaches regularly.
