What to Expect

American Panorama comprises more than two dozen concerts and events in Orchestra Hall and The Peter D. and Julie F. Cummings Cube.

Music Director Laureate Leonard Slatkin, a champion of American symphonic repertoire for over five decades, leads the DSO in six classical programs in Orchestra Hall. Well known concert works by Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Samuel Barber, and George Gershwin are complemented by lesser-heard pieces and innovative fare including an all-John Williams concert, works by minimalists Steve Reich and Philip Glass paired with John Luther Adams’ Pulitzer Prize-winning Become Ocean, and the world premiere of Kristin Kuster’s Dune Acres.

Additional offerings in The Cube will feature new music, cabaret, techno, jazz, hip-hop, and more, together weaving a vivid tapestry of American music. There will also be film screenings, a romantic Valentine’s Day concert, dance performances, yoga, and a jazz-inspired wine tasting, plus a Chamber Recital by DSO musicians at Steinway Gallery of Detroit, among other events.
