Brahms, ever the jokester, wrote to his publisher explaining that his sunny and cheerful Second Symphony “is so melancholy that you will not be able to bear it.” Eduardo Strausser conducts this acclaimed pastoral work, as well as Schubert’s overture to Die Zauberharfe and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (with featured soloist Eric Lu).
