Please join us for an evening with the Detroit Community Orchestra and Detroit Community Band!
The Detroit Community Orchestra, directed by Maritza Garibay, is comprised of Detroit-based musicians of all ages and experience who perform a wide range of orchestral works from classical to contemporary.
Maritza Garibay is a musician, composer, and music educator from Detroit, Michigan. A violinist and orchestral conductor, she has shifted her focus toward experimental sonic explorations with homemade analog synthesizers and effects. Her current work reflects on the diaspora of Pauline Oliveros’s deep listening pedagogy in the BIPOC sound art community.
The Detroit Community Band, directed by Damien Crutcher, has grown to over 110 members strong since its inception in 2016. Previous guest conductors include H. Robert Reynolds.
Damien Crutcher, a native Detroiter and graduate of Cass Technical High School, studied at Michigan State University and earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan. He is also Co-Founder and CEO of Crescendo Detroit, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Farmington Community Band, and Managing Director of Detroit Harmony.
