Saturday, December 3, 2022—6:00pm
The Peter D. and Julie F. Cummings Cube
4 hours and 30 minutes

The DSO is proud to once again partner with Midtown Detroit, Inc., community partners, and businesses to celebrate Noel Night, a Cultural Center-wide holiday open house that presents free activities, including horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday shopping, family craft activities, and performances by over 100 area music, theater, and dance groups, and other special performances.

The Cube will present back-to-back performances starting at 6 PM with the Detroit Latin Jazz Group Aguankó performing selections from their critically acclaimed Christmas album “Latin Jazz Christmas in Havana,” which turns Christmas standards into traditional Cuban music jewels.

At 8 PM, the Brubeck Brothers take the stage continuing in the tradition of their father, jazz giant Dave Brubeck. Although the Quartet’s style is rooted in “straight-ahead” jazz, their concerts reveal an inherent ability to explore and play odd time signatures while naturally integrating the influences of funk, blues, and world music. The group’s creativity, technique, and improvisation can be heard in their uncompromising music, which reflects their dedication to melody, rhythm, culture, and the spontaneous spirit of jazz.

5:00 – 10:00 PM Selfies with Santa in the Atrium
6:00 PM Aguankó in The Cube
8:00 PM Brubeck Brothers Quartet in The Cube

About the Brubeck Brothers
Chris and Dan Brubeck have been making music together practically all their lives.  Drummer Dan and bassist, trombonist, and composer Chris cut their first record together in 1966—nearly a half-century ago. They’ve subsequently played a variety of styles in a number of different groups, as well as with their father, jazz giant Dave Brubeck, and with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet. With Dan and Chris as the foundation, guitarist Mike DeMicco, and pianist Chuck Lamb complete this dynamic quartet.  They perform at concert series, colleges, and jazz festivals across North America and Europe, including the Newport, Detroit, Montreal, Playboy/Hollywood Bowl, and Monterey Jazz Festivals.

About Aguankó
Aguankó, the ensemble led by percussionist and composer Alberto Nacíf, is a talented group of Michigan-based musicians who are steeped in the tradition of jazz-infused Son-Salsa. These tasteful musicians’ interpretation of Alberto Nacif’s original music is evocative and sensuous and true to its Cuban roots. Aguankó has received local, national, and international attention, and their live concerts have dazzled capacity crowds at the multiple venues where they have performed.

Your generous gift makes world-class music at the DSO possible, fueling the community connections, life-changing education and captivating programming that impacts more than 500,000 people a year!
