Acting Principal Second Violin Adam Stepniewski joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 1991 as Assistant Principal of the second violin section. He is a native of Poland and a graduate of the prestigious F. Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw.
Prior to his appointment with Detroit Symphony Orchestra as Assistant Principal Second Violin, Stepniewski served as Fourth Concertmaster with Radio Symphony Orchestra of Copenhagen, Denmark and Assistant Concertmaster with National Philharmonic in Warsaw.
Stepniewski has performed and recorded with the Polish Chamber Orchestra and the Sinfonia Varsovia with conductors including Yehudi Menhuin, Mstistlav Rostropovich, and Hans Graf.
His concert tours with the Warsaw Philharmonic and the Denmark Radio Symphony Orchestra have taken him to Western Europe, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and the United States. He also performed and recorded with the Polish Chamber Orchestra and the Sinfonia Varsovia. In 1987 he was a guest member of the World Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Guiseppe Sinopoli. In 1999, Stepniewski returned to his native Poland for a concert of remembrance marking 60 years since the Nazi invasion of the country.
