Laura Soto

First Violin

DSO member since 1995

Laura Soto began playing the violin at the age of five. Her parents, both having musical backgrounds, were a great source of inspiration and encouragement. She continued her studies throughout college and received a bachelor and master's degree in music from the University of Michigan.

Before joining the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Soto was a member of the Grant Park Symphony in Chicago and the Columbus Symphony in Ohio. She joined the DSO in 1995 as Assistant Concertmaster and held that position for 16 years. Aside from her professional career, Soto enjoys traveling with her husband, reading memoirs, and viewing movies from her extensive collection of over 700 films.
