Concert Description

One hundred years ago, attendees to the first concert in Orchestra Hall experienced this same powerhouse program by the DSO featuring Beethoven’s immortal Fifth Symphony. With its iconic opening measures and climb from darkness to light, Beethoven’s Fifth is perhaps, as novelist E. M. Forster described it, “the most sublime noise that has ever penetrated into the ear of man.” Twin pianists Christina and Michelle Naughton perform an acrobatic four-handed piano concerto which Mozart intended to perform with his sister Nannerl; later, David Fung joins the Naughtons for a three-piano spectacle by Bach.
