Concert Description

Presented by the DSO and Midtown Detroit Inc., the Michigan State University Big Band will treat event attendees to back-to-back performances in The Cube at 5:30 & 7:15 PM, plus a special performance by Frank Moka and Dos Negros at 9:30 PM. Frank Moka’s “Dos Negros”, takes the audience on a musical odyssey making stops in Africa, Cuba, Brazil, Jamaica and America. Influenced by Fela Kuti, Quincy Jones, Bob Marley and the thumping sounds of hip-hop pioneers such as, UGK and OutKast, listeners should be prepared to vibrate higher on a soulful ride.

Noel Night is a Cultural Center-wide holiday open house that presents free activities including: horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday shopping, family craft activities and performances by over 200 area music, theatre, and dance groups, and other special performances. Free and open to the public! The Cube, located in the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center, will create a casual yet intimate atmosphere in which audience members are encouraged to come-and-go as they please. Arrive early for food and drink specials, holiday shopping, and selfies with Santa Claus.

Limited parking available in the DSO garage at Cass and Parsons.

This event is FREE. No tickets required. Doors open at 1:00 PM. Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If you are planning to attend Noel Night and/or Saturday night’s Pops concert in Orchestra Hall:
• Please allow additional travel time as there will be traffic gridlock in the Midtown district —resulting in 1 hour + delays for visitors in their pursuit to find parking. Wayne State University Police will be out assisting with traffic control.
• If at all possible, please avoid the Warren avenue exit off 75 at all cost. ENTER MIDTOWN FROM THE I-75 MACK AVENUE EXIT or the M-10 FOREST EXIT.
