Concert Description

CUBE Lecture Series:
Music historians Lars Bjorn and Jim Gallert explore Detroit's fertile music scene from 1946-1960, the year Motown took off like a Missile. Musicians who played a significant role at Motown started out with a variety of Detroit bands. Blues, Jazz, R&B, Gospel, and Rock n' Roll were prominent in the Motor City. Bjorn and Gallert bring to life long-forgotten musicians, clubs, rare images and recordings that paint a picture of Detroit's pre-Motown music scene. Gordy created fresh sounds for a new generation of Detroiters that had kids around the world "Dancin' In The Streets," but Detroiters had plenty of sounds that moved their feet before Motown.
