Concert Description

An incredible musical legacy inspires a new generation! Dynamic Russian conductor Andrey Boreyko leads Sergei Prokofiev's timeless suite from Romeo and Juliet, plus the spectacular premiere of composer/DJ Gabriel Prokofiev's Saxophone Concerto performed by the great Branford Marsalis.

Enjoy special guests, lectures, or performances that illuminate the program and provide a behind-the-scenes look at the art of making music! Associate Conductor Michelle Merrill will speak with composer Gabriel Prokofiev on this occasion.


Andrey Boreyko, conductor  Bio

Russian conductor Andrey Boreyko is one of the most exciting and dynamic conductors to emerge from Eastern Europe in recent years. He is currently Music Director of the Orchestre National de Belgique and the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and serves as Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi in San Sebastian.  Additionally, he becomes Music Director of Florida’s Naples Philharmonic in 2014/15.

Branford Marsalis, alto saxophone   Bio

World-renowned saxophonist Branford Marsalis has always been a man of numerous musical interests, from jazz, blues and funk to such classical music projects as his Fall 2008 tour with Marsalis Brasilianos. The three-time Grammy winner has continued to exercise and expand his skills as an instrumentalist, a composer, and the head of Marsalis Music—the label he founded in 2002 that has allowed him to produce both his own projects and those of the jazz world’s most promising new and established artists.
