Honoring their namesake, the modern French composer Francis Poulenc, who performed for Pro Musica in 1961, the ensemble consists of pianist Irina Kaplan Lande, oboist Liang Wang and bassoonist Bryan Young.
The Poulenc Trio’s mission is to present thrilling and delightful performances, while expanding audiences for world-class live chamber music. The ensemble achieves its goal by touring extensively throughout the U.S. and around the world, through constant teaching and outreach to young listeners, and through a strong commitment to commissioning, performing and recording new works from living composers.
Since its founding in 2003, the Poulenc Trio has performed in 45 U.S. states and at music festivals around the world, including the White Nights Festival in Russia, where the group toured with and premiered two new works with violinist Hilary Hahn. The ensemble performed “Trains of Thought: Animated,” a collaboration between The Poulenc Trio, composer Viet Cuong and animators
Elizabeth and Alden Phelps. The new work combined a kinetic score and stunningly beautiful stop-motion animation into a multisensory experience that made audiences smile at special places revealed within the human heart.
