The Danish String Quartet holds a unique position in the echelon of young and dynamic ensembles on the international scene today. Though all under the age of 30, its members have been performing as a quartet since its debut in 2002 at the Copenhagen Festival. With their passion for Scandinavian composers, contemporary programs and juxtaposed programs with the classics, they have drawn praise from critics, audiences and fellow musicians with their profound interpretations.

Featuring folk tunes from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and the Faroe Islands, this concert follows a CD of folk music that the quartet will release this fall as a labor of love. “It is going to be an album full of magic, groove, beauty, longing, melancholy, tight chopping and fast fingers flying around on the violins,” says the Quartet. It will “tell the stories of our Scandinavian roots in a rarely heard language – the language of a string quartet.”

The quartet, which describes itself as "a friendly neighborhood quartet with above average amounts of beard," will perform folk music from Denmark and other Nordic countries.
